Rotator cuff tears

Rotator cuff comprises of 4 muscle groups which control the movement of shoulder joint. Most often a painful shoulder is linked to Supraspinatus tendinitis and inability to lift arm is linked to rotator cuff tears which need surgical treatment in the form of arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs.

Shoulder instability / dislocation

Shoulder is the most common joint to dislocate following trauma. following an episode of dislocation, labrum tissue is torn from the glenoid and this leads to an unstable joint. A bankart tear is labrum tear which needs to be arthroscopically treated with bankart repair.

Latarjet Procedure

An unstable shoulder with history of recurrent dislocation will have loss of bone on the socket(glenoid) which needs to be treated with Latarjet procedure.

Frozen Shoulder

Most common shoulder symptom is inability to lift arm over head or to reach the patients back. This is most commonly associated with uncontrolled Diabetes or Hypothroidism and rarely following trauma. Mostly treated with physiotherapy and rarely with surgery.

Shoulder Arthritis/Replacement

Elderly patients with history of trauma or chronic shoulder pain diagnosed with arthritis of shoulder joint or following a complex fracture of shoulder bones need total shoulder replacement where the arthritic joint surface is replaced with prosthesis to give a free moving painless joint.

Reverse Shoulder Replacement

Shoulder arthritis or complex shoulder fractures with irrepairable rotator cuff tears need a special procedure called the reverse shoulder replacement where the ball and socket are interchanged resulting in painless shoulder movements.
